Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) Primer
- Go to https://portal.office365.com
- Sign in with your Email Credentials
- You will get the following prompt. Click Next and have your cell phone available.
- Put your cell phone number into the field and select either Send me a code by text message, or Call me (we recommend the text messages):
- Click Next and Microsoft will push a text message to your phone to verify the number. Please insert the six-digit number you get texted into the field at the following page:
Once everything is verified, you will be given an app password (highlighted).
If you have old versions of Office (2013 or older) or have an old/not updated Phone (more than 2-3 years without an update). You may need this password to connect your legacy phone/applications.
If you fall into one of the above categories, please save this password TEMPORARILY in a Notepad or similar.
Old Office Applications/Old Phone USERS – PLEASE READ FOR CONTINUED EMAIL ACCESS
After setting up 2FA on your email account, within a few hours, your mail client on your phone will ask you for a new password. Please use the app password generated and saved above. The idea behind this password is only the phone should know the password. If you need a new one, you can generate a new app password at:
